The Best Gift This Christmas

The Lord, in all His conflicts brought about by temptations, never fought out of self-love, that is, for Himself, but for all throughout the universe. He did not fight therefore to become the greatest in heaven, for that is contrary to Divine love. He scarcely did so to become the least. He fought solely so that all others might become something and be saved, as He Himself also declares in Mark,

The two sons of Zebedee said, Grant us to sit in Your glory, one on Your right hand and the other on Your left. Jesus said, Whoever would be great among you must be your minister, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For the Son of Man also came not to be ministered to but to minister, and to give His life as the price of redemption for many. Mark 10:37, 43-45.

The Heavenly Doctrines paint a truly unique picture of what it means to be a woman and what it means to be a man and how these two different creatures are designed to fit together. I can find no similar perspectives to this either in the current world cultures or in my studies of history. This makes these particular teachings fascinating and exciting for me, but I have also discovered that the very uniqueness of these teachings can make them confusing to conceptualize. Knitting Appreciation

I’m not much of a knitter.  I can count on my fingers the knitting projects I have begun, and count on one hand the ones I have successfully completed, mostly thanks to sewing class in school.

But I’m fascinated with and appreciate all the little household arts and tasks that General Church women do, and how much these add to the lives of those around them. Sometimes it’s the mundane, daily tasks that bring a touch of heaven to those around us. The things women create need to be celebrated because they’re not the sorts of things that make headlines, and yet they represent the sphere in which we are nurtured.
